At 06:16 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched following reports of a drifting catamaran 7 miles ENE of Zone Point.
The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 06:28 and having rounded Zone Point headed up to the East arriving on scene at 07:01. A crew member was placed on board the catamaran to check it over before a tow line was attached. The tow back to Falmouth commenced at 07:16 and once in Falmouth Inner Harbour the vessel was placed on a visitors mooring at 08:46, the lifeboat then being released to return to its station.
The All Weather Lifeboat arrived back alongside its pontoon berth at 09:03 where it was refuelled and ready for service by 09:25.
The Catamaran had been seen being towed out of the harbour by a small motor boat the previous evening. It is believed that the towing vessel had broken down and itself had been towed into Mevagissey.
