At 11:40 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 9m Motorboat Morganna II with two persons on board which had reported being broken down 13 miles ESE of Zone Point.
The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 11:50 and headed out to the casualty, arriving on scene at 12:40. A tow line was passed to the vessel and at 12:50 the tow back to Falmouth commenced. On arrival in the harbour the boat was taken to the pontoons at the Falmouth Haven where it was safely secured at 14:45, the lifeboat being released to return to its station.
The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth at 14:50, where the lifeboat was refuelled and ready for service by 15:15.
The motorboat had been on passage from Salcombe to Ireland when it had suffered a fuel problem. The skipper and his crew had spent a couple of hours trying to fix the problem before reluctantly having to contact the coastguard to request assistance. They were very grateful for the help they received.
