At 15:24 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 12m Yacht Charisma with two people on board which had reported becoming fouled on fishing nets 5 miles East of Zone Point.
The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 15:34 and arrived on scene at 15:56. The yachts crew had managed to free themselves from the netting and were attempting to sail towards Falmouth. The lifeboat agreed to standby the yacht as it headed towards the port but at 17:32 with the yacht making very limited progress upwind in the prevailing condition the skipper agreed to take a tow which was connected by 17:40. The yacht was towed into Falmouth Inner Harbour where it was placed on a visitors mooring at 18:50, the lifeboat then being released to return to its station.
The All Weather Lifeboat arrived back alongside its pontoon berth at 19:00 where it was refuelled and ready for service by 19:15.
The yacht had been on passage from Fowey to Falmouth when it had become fouled on fishing nets. Wisely in the prevailing weather conditions the skipper had requested assistance.
